Kicker In The Junk

A kicker, for those who don’t know, is one of those cute little stories about strange or ironic things that’s run at the end of a newscast. Aren’t people quirky and amusing! What unpredictable scamps!

The kicker section of cbc.ca is called Diversions, and here’s a story I found in it today.

Isn’t that adorable? Those wacky Hamilton police, getting all wound up about a guy who steals bras and panties.

Ooh… maybe cbc.ca can run an equally cute little story about how many people who are convicted of sexual assualt have a history of this kind of theft.

Good for you, Hamilton police. You’re taking this seriously, as you should. As for you, cbc.ca, I’ll see you when you get back from 1955.

My regular weekly post is below.

And on the lighter side today, a criminal is being (ha ha) sought after for a series of break-ins in which the only items stolen were baby shoes.

I tried to make a funny comment about how humourless you are, and then remembered how often I’m told I’m humourless for saying the same sorts of things, and changed my mind.

I have a pretty extensive sense of humour–more extensive than a lot of people would like. This shit, though, is the kind of thing that makes it hard for a woman to be taken seriously when she says, look, some guy broke into my home and stole my underwear and that creeps me out. I mean, it should creep her out. It’s a bad sign.

GF, you are right on the mark. that ‘only’ in the CBC headline is pure judgement and editorializing by the author/editor/webperson.

Here in Halifax, we’ve have a guy breaking into young women’s bedrooms to watch them sleep. Fortunatly, the media took it much more seriously.

Hamilton – like Regina, only bigger

Do you think it might be the environment that these reporters/editors are kept in. “Well compared to all the other horrible things we need to tell you about today this seems harmless…”

STV: I’m pretty sure that almost all news editorializes and judges. I think that the more well done and professional a piece looks, the better its been hidden.
